Box Score WASHINGTON, D.C. - The first day of the
Gallaudet University 1st Annual Women's Soccer Tournament featured
two shutouts and a tie. The host Bison earned the tie, 1-1, against
Valley Forge Christian College on Saturday evening under the lights
at Hotchkiss Field.
The Bison (0-2-1) jumped out with a 1-0 lead when freshman
midfielder Tiffany Narciso (Wildwood, N.J.) scored
her first-ever collegiate goal at the 31 minute mark in the first
half. Narciso goal happened off a pretty assist from fellow
freshman Maddie Morgan (Wilmington, Del.), who
made the cross from the left side of the goal to the center where
Narciso was positioned to knock home the goal.
Valley Forge Christian (1-2-1) knotted the game at 1-1 late in
the first when Sarah Stark blasted home an unassisted goal from 20
yards out.
Gallaudet freshman goalie Kara Gulvas (Crown Point, Ind.) made
six saves in the tie.
VFCC had a golden opportunity to take the lead in the second
half as a Bison foul led to a penalty kick but Brannon Dayton hit
the left post of the GU goal in the 73rd minute.
The Patriots held a 13-9 advantage in shots while GU took two
more corner kicks, 4-2. VFCC goalie Kaitlyn Antolic made four saves
for the Patriots.
In other action, Washington Adventist University (formerly known
as Columbia Union) beat Mary Baldwin College 3-0 in the late game.
The first game of the day saw Trinity (D.C.) University defeat
Patrick Henry College, 1-0.
The second day of the tournament begins at 10 a.m. at Hotchkiss
Field and will conclude at 3 p.m. when the host Bison face-off
against Patrick Henry College.
