Box Score
WASHINGTON, D.C. - Freshman forward
Shaquana McDonough (Pembroke, Mass.) did all the
scoring for Gallaudet University on Thursday evening as the Bison
won 3-1 over Lancaster Bible College in a non-conference night game
at Hotchkiss Field.
The win is the first in five games for Gallaudet (4-7-1) since a
1-0 shutout against Trinity (D.C.) University. GU almost had a
fourth shutout this season but Lancaster Bible (2-7-1) scored a
goal with 25 seconds left in the game.
McDonough got things started for the Buff and Blue just 13
minutes into the first half on a fast break unassisted goal. She
added a second unassisted goal 13 minutes later when she took two
shots. The first shot was saved by LBC goalie Kirsten Shoemaker
(nine saves) but the rebound fell right onto McDonough's foot as
she blasted it into the net. McDonough would add a third goal in
the 36th minute off a nice assist pass from freshman midfielder
Maddie Morgan (Wilmington, Del.). The hat-trick is
the first of McDonough's collegiate career and sets a new
season-high for the Bison for goals in a game. She also took 13
shots, 10 on goal, both new team-high marks for the season.
Gallaudet outshot Lancaster Bible 23-13 and held a 14-6
advantage at the half. GU took eight corner kicks in the game while
LBC took three of its four in the second half. The Bison took a 3-0
lead into halftime.
Bison freshman goalie Kara Gulvas (Crown Point,
Ind.) made four saves in 78 minutes of action before she gave way
to junior goalie Casey McCullough (Oceanside,
Calif.), who closed out the game, and made one save and allowed one
goal. The Charger goal was scored by Meredith Wrightson, her first
of the year, as she beat McCullough high off a fast break run.
GU has scored a goal in nine of its 11 games this season. The
Bison have scored 16 goals this season which is one more then they
scored in the past two seasons combined.
Gallaudet heads back into Capital Athletic Conference play this
weekend when the Bison travel to Stevenson University for a Noon
game on Saturday, October 10.
