Box Score WASHINGTON, D.C. - Gallaudet University, one of the Capital Athletic Conference founding members, participated in its final men's soccer game as a member of the conference on a wet Tuesday night. The Bison suffered a 7-1 loss to the hands of Stevenson University to end the season.
The loss ends a long chapter for the Bison men's soccer program in the CAC since 1991. GU is leaving the CAC at the end of the school year to join the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC).
Gallaudet senior Le Toudjida Allara (Moundou, Chad) scored the Bison's lone goal in the 76th minute. Allara's first goal is fitting on Senior Day as he is the lone senior for the Buff and Blue. He knocked home a loose ball off a save by Stevenson goalie Greg Coard (one save) in front of the Mustang goal. The goal ended a 535 minute scoreless streak for Gallaudet (0-18, 0-8 CAC).
The Bison defense led by juniors Sean Ryant (Cleveland, Ohio) and Serge Okogo (Liberville, Gabon) along with freshmen Trevor Schultz (San Antonio, Texas) and Jeremy Wagoner (Pittsburgh, Pa.) kept the Mustangs in check for the first part of the game. The Bison defense recorded three team saves in front of sophomore goalie Poloko Qobose (Gaborone, Botswana). Qobose ended the game with 14 saves as he stopped several hard shots and dove to make a handful of saves.
Stevenson (10-8, 5-3 CAC) finally broke through the Bison defense in the 17th minute when Ansger Otto scored the first of two goals on the night. The Mustangs had six different goal scorers in the game. The Mustangs held a 2-0 lead at halftime. For the game, Stevenson outshot Gallaudet 42-4 and took 10 corner kicks to one by the Bison.
Gallaudet will enter its new conference next fall with a 54-game losing streak that dates back to October 2006. The Bison hope their fortunes will be better in the NEAC then they were in the CAC where Gallaudet accumulated a 3-132 mark during the CAC regular-season and 4-146 record (that includes CAC tournament games) overall in conference play. The Bison last won a conference game in 1997 when the Buff and Blue went 2-5 in the CAC regular-season and beat York (Pa.) College, 2-0, in the CAC tournament first-round. Since then Gallaudet has lost 88 consecutive regular-season games and 95 overall (including CAC tournament games), a span of 12 seasons. In fact of the 19 seasons the Bison played in the CAC they only had two seasons when they won a conference game(s) in 1993 and '97.
