Box Score WASHINGTON, D.C. - Gallaudet University and
Hood College entered Friday night's men's soccer game in search of
their first Capital Athletic Conference victory. Unfortunately for
the Bison they were on the short end of a 5-0 shutout before a
Homecoming crowd of 250 at Hotchkiss Field under the lights.
The two teams played even for the first 20 minutes of the game
before the Blazers (3-12, 1-6 CAC) broke through with two quick
goals, in a three-minute span. Defender Carlin Rabie scored the
first of his two goals in the game in the 23rd minute while
midfielder Shawn Fernholz netted his first goal of the season off
an assist from Zachary Salisbury (one goal, one assist) in the 26th
minute.
Gallaudet (0-17, 0-7 CAC) took four shots in the first half as
the Bison trailed 2-0 at the intermission. In the second half, GU
only took three shots as Hood outshot the Buff and Blue 26-7 in the
game. The Bison hurt themselves several times as they were whistled
six times for being offsides. Hood booted in three additional goals
in the second half.
Sophomore goalie Poloko Qobose (Gaborone,
Botswana) kept the Bison in the game as he made several acrobatic
saves as he ended the game with nine saves. Hood goalie William
Lane picked up the win and stopped three Bison shots.
Gallaudet will close out the 2009 season and the final chapter
of the Bison in the CAC when they host Stevenson University on
Tuesday, October 27, at 7 p.m. Gallaudet, a founding member of the
CAC, is leaving after this season to join the North Eastern
Athletic Conference. The last time GU won a CAC game was in 1997,
when it won twice. Currently, the Bison have lost 53 consecutive
games since 2006.
