WASHINGTON, DC--Bison goalkeeper Amelia Palmer worked the net
hard as her gloved hands stopped the ball 24 times, off a total of
31 shots put forth by Marymount in a 8-0 conference loss. Speedy
forward Katie Romano worked the field hard, preventing further
goals by pushing the ball out of bounds or deflecting passes with
swift kicks. Marymount started its offensive surge two minutes into
the first half, as Dana Zawolski outsmarted Palmer's deft handwork
with an 8-yard shot into the net. The Saints had five players
scoring, with Zawolski, Carrie Schneider, and Emily Parent
contributing two apiece.
Near the end of the first half, a big collision between the
Bison's Palmer and Marymount's Katie Mahon left the Saint face-down
on the field for nearly 30 minutes. The freshman forward had to be
wheeled off the field with a neck injury.
In the second half, the Bison defense worked to contain the
Saint offense, keeping the total offensive output to two goals
until the last two minutes, with Parent and Schneider scoring about
a minute apart. The Bison continue training for their third
game on Saturday, September 8 as they travel to Lincoln University
in non-conference play.
