SALISBURY, Md. - The Gallaudet University men's track and field team participated in the Eastern Shore Challenge hosted by Salisbury University on Saturday. There were no team scores recorded for the meet.
The Bison made an impressive showing with many athletes recording personal best times.
First year
Sevan Ikeda (Fremont, Calif.) set his sights on the Gallaudet school record for the 1,500 meters (4:08.3) and nearly broke the mark that has stood since 1993. Ikeda crossed the finish line in third place with a personal best time of four minutes and 13.88 seconds.
Steven Hubmer's school record, which ironically was set at the Sea Gull Invitational in Salisbury, Md., on April 24, 1993, lives for another day but Ikeda is knocking at the door.
Junior
Andrae' Green (Washington, D.C.) set a person best time in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.82 seconds to take 13th place. Green also excelled in triple jump with a fourth-place finish as he sailed 12.69 meters (41 feet, 7.75 inches) through the air.
Sophomores
Joe Bryan (Liberty, Mo.) and
Mohamed Elsheikh (Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates) ran in the 800-meter run and placed sixth and eighth, respectively. Bryan's time of 2:20.90 was a personal best while Elsheikh posted a time of 2:56.93.
The Bison had an impressive showing for the 100-meter dash, with four runners competing in the event. Green, first year
Jason Alford (Dayton, Ohio), junior
Omar Harvey (Newark, N.J.), and sophomore
Armando Alvarez (Kansas City, Kan.) all represented the buff and blue. Alford was right on the heels of Green in 14th place (11.99 seconds) while Harvey was 18th (12.32).
Harvey was not done as he posted a season best time of 25.16 seconds in the 200-meter dash to place 14th overall.
Sophomore
Bobby Battle (Brandywine, Md.), first year
Widnuel Floreal (Melbourne, Fla.), junior
Navar Harris (Charleston, W.Va.), and junior
Andrew Suarez (Fairview, Texas) all competed in the shot put event. Harris had the best showing as he finished fourth with a top toss of 12.92 meters (42 feet, 4.75 inches). Suarez was the next Bison in seventh place (11.97 meters).
Suarez turned the tables in the hammer throw as he finished sixth with a top throw of 38.94 meters (127 feet, nine inches).
Floreal was GU's top finisher in the discus in ninth place with a toss of 31.97 meters (104 feet, 10 inches). First year
Kendarrius Watkins (Fort Worth, Texas) was 10th (27.87 meters) followed by sophomore
Kila Silva-Ewan (Honolulu, Hawaii) in 13th (24.41 meters).
First year
Akia Sloan (Washington, D.C.) competed in javelin and finished seventh with a distance of 35.89 meters (117 feet, nine inches).
BISON TRACKS
- Alvarez recorded personal best times in the 100- (13.21 seconds) and 200-meter dash (27.24)
- First year Ibukunoluwa Oluoni (Dallas, Texas) and Silva-Ewan finished 11th and 12th, respectively, in the hammer
- Alvarez and first year Roud Valcin (Naples, Fla.) represented GU in the long jump as the duo took 13th (4.95 meters) and 14th place (4.78 meters), respectively
- Battle took 15th in the discus (18.75 meters)
UP NEXT
The Bison are off for two weeks before they will head to La Plume, Pa., for the 2026 United East Outdoor Track & Field Championships hosted by Keystone College. The two-day championships begin on Saturday, May 2.
