LATHAM, N.Y. - The United East has announced its Senior Scholar Athlete Award winners for the spring season. This award recognizes a senior who truly represents the student-athlete model by performing in competition, in the classroom and around the community.
Gallaudet University senior
Liam Painter (Edgewood, N.M.) was selected as the men's track and field honoree. Painter is the second Bison to earn a United East Senior Scholar Athlete Award this year and the only honoree for the spring season. Women's basketball senior forward
Cassidy Perry (Frederick, Md.) was the first Bison to earn a United East Senior Scholar Athlete Award last winter.
The other award honorees from the United East spring sports include; St.Mary's College of Maryland's Elizabeth Robey (Women's Track and Field), Keystone College's Joe Manfredo (Men's Lacrosse), St. Mary's College of Maryland's MC Mortimer (Women's Lacrosse), Penn St. Harrisburg's Kevin Lehner (Baseball), Lancaster Bible College's Phoebe Clemens (Softball), Cairn University's Michael Wilson (Men's Tennis), Cairn University's Rachel Campbell-Robertson (Women's Tennis), Bryn Athyn College's Teagan Deewees and Penn St. Harrisburg's Matthew Redman (Men's Golf).
Painter placed second at the 2024 United East Outdoor Track & Field Championships in the pole vault when he cleared 4.05 meters (13 feet, 3.5 inches). He was named to the USTFCCCA Outdoor All-Region Team (South Region). Painter also set the school record in the pole vault with a mark of 4.55 meters (14 feet, 11 inches).
Off the field, Painter holds a 3.72 GPA in Biology, he graduated with Sum Cum Laude honors. He is a member of the Chi Alpha Sigma Honor Society and was named United East Field Athlete of the Week earlier this season on April 2.
Last winter, he finished first at United East Indoor Track & Field Championships in the pole vault to secure all-conference first team honors after he cleared 4.58 meters (15 feet, 0.25 inches) to set a new school record.
