NEW ORLEANS - Regional Athletes and Coaches of the Year for the 2024 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field season were announced Wednesday by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) following the conclusion of the regular season.
Gallaudet University senior sprinter Eric Gregory (Metairie, La.) was selected as the Men's Track Athlete of the Year for the South Region for the second time in his career. Gregory first earned this award back in 2022.
Award winners were determined by a vote of USTFCCCA member coaches at the conclusion of the regular season. Only those individuals from USTFCCCA member programs are eligible for awards.
Gregory the two-time NCAA Division III outdoor national champion in the men's 400-meter dash is primed for a three-peat this weekend at the 2024 NCAA national championships. Gregory will compete in the 100-, 200- and 400-meter dash events. Gregory, a five-time USTFCCCA All-American, recently received three more USTFCCCA All-Region honors in those three sprint events to increase his overall career total to 16. Gregory earned a third conference Men's Track Athlete of the Year and third ECAC Outdoor Championship Men's Top Performer this season. Gregory posted the fastest time in NCAA Division III in the 400-meter dash when he crossed the finish line in 46.30 seconds at the Widener University Final Qualifier (May 13).
Gregory is the only Gallaudet men's or women's track and field student-athlete to earn USTFCCCA Regional Athlete of the Year honors.
Gregory and many of the other USTFCCCA Regional Athletes of the Year will compete at the 2024 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships this week (May 23-25) in Myrtle Beach, S.C., at Doug Shaw Memorial Stadium.
