WASHINGTON - Gallaudet University athletics is proud to participate in the 12th annual NCAA Division III Week (April 10-16) in an effort to celebrate the impact athletics and Bison student-athletes have on our campus and the surrounding community. GU is joining 439 Division III institutions and 44 voting conferences in this week's celebration.
To help focus on the many student-athletes that represent Gallaudet athletics we will spotlight two different student-athletes each day this week. You will learn more about them as they express their feelings on what it is like to be a Division III student-athlete here at Gallaudet. Interviews were conducted by the Gallaudet Sports Information Office.
Sophomore
Kylar Sicoli (Austin, Texas) is a second-year student-athlete for the football program. Sicoli majors in business management and entrepreneurship and is expected to graduate in May 2025.
Q: What is it like to be a student-athlete in college?
KS: I always have been a student-athlete my whole life. The student-athlete in high school is so different from the student-athlete in college. It is fun to be a student-athlete in college because of the family that I am part of.
Q:
What is it like to be a student-athlete at Gallaudet University?
KS: Gallaudet football team is one big family, coaching staff always provides the best support to the football players. I receive the best support from the coaching staff to reach my best potential. Gallaudet University brings the most diverse student, each student has a completely different background. The Gallaudet football program brings everyone together and helps each person in the program to learn about each person's backgrounds. That is what makes the Gallaudet football program much more different than other colleges.
Q: What are your goals after graduation, what do you hope to do in life?
KS: After graduating from Gallaudet University, my goal is to set up a business. I hope my future business will give me the opportunity to support the deaf community.
Q: This was a special year for GU football as the Bison won the ECFC championship, what does that mean to you?
KS: After the Gallaudet football team won the ECFC conference, I felt so good because I felt all the hard work of the Gallaudet football program made, had paid off. It means a lot to me to see my teammates and coaching staff celebrate and have the time of their life. There is no better feeling than winning the ECFC conference with family. I am extremely honored to be part of the Gallaudet football team.
