Box Score WASHINGTON - Early in the second quarter, here Saturday night, Gallaudet University women's basketball welcomed its newest member of the 1,000-point club as senior guard Emelia Beldon (Frederick, Md.) made a layup down low. Those were the first two points of the game for Beldon, who finished with 13 points and 11 rebounds as Gallaudet rolled to a 75-60 United East Conference win over Penn St.-Abington.
Gallaudet (10-7, 8-2 United East) has now won five straight and has reached double digit wins for the third time in the past four seasons played. The Bison continue to hold the top spot in the conference standings with an 80 percent winning percentage. Penn St.-Abington (6-11, 5-4 United East) fell down to sixth in the standings.
Four different Bison finished in double figures led by sophomore forward Malia Zornoza (Riverside, Calif.), who scored a game-high 19 points and completed the double-double with 10 rebounds, five assists and four steals. Sophomore forward Cassidy Perry (Frederick, Md.) added 16 points and 10 rebounds for another double-double this season. Beldon was the third Bison in double figures while freshman guard Crystal Salit (Boyds, Md.) returned and came off the bench to net 12 points to go with two assists and two steals. Sophomore Sunita Schmidjorg (Austin, Texas) finished with eight points, five rebounds and three assists.
