Box Score WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. - The Gallaudet University women's basketball team played Penn College of Technology in the United East Conference opener on Friday night and dropped a tough game, 68-61.
The Wildcats held an early lead, 21-18, until the second quarter when the Bison ran ahead and took a 34-30 lead into halftime. Gallaudet (1-4, 0-1 United East) kept the lead until the fourth quarter, where Penn College (1-5, 1-0 United East) took a 53-52 lead with seven minutes left. GU stayed within striking distance but couldn't regain the lead.
Freshman forward Hannah Puent (Indianapolis, Ind.) led the Bison with 14 points, 11 rebounds, one assist and one steal. Puent shined as she made 7 of 10 shots from the field. Sophomore guard Sunita Schmidjorg (Austin, Texas) came off the bench and tallied 14 points, three steals and two assists. Sophomore forward Cassidy Perry (Frederick, Md.) recorded a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds to go with four steals, three assists and one block.
