Box Score WASHINGTON - A depleted Gallaudet University women's basketball team dropped a 63-34 non-conference game to Randolph College here Sunday afternoon before a sparse crowd in the Field House.
Gallaudet (3-6) was held to single digits in three of the four quarters against Randolph (8-2). The Bison only had two substitutes compared to the WildCats, who went 10 deep on its bench.
Randolph jumped out to a 12-0 lead just over five minutes into the game before the Bison got on the scoreboard with a made shot from freshman guard Jewel Rocha (Austin, Texas). Randolph added to its lead and led by 15 after the first quarter, 23-8.
Gallaudet battled back in the second quarter and got the margin down to nine points, 25-16, after sophomore forward Cassidy Perry (Frederick, Md.) made a basket at the 1:36 mark. The WildCats scored the next seven points and took a 32-16 lead into halftime.
In the third quarter, the teams were out of rhythm as they went over four minutes without a field goal but Randolph was comfortably in the lead up 41-22.
GU trailed by 20 points, 47-27, with one quarter left to play.
Randolph outscored GU 16-7 in the final quarter en route to the 29-point victory, 63-34.
Perry posted game-high totals in points (20), rebounds (12) and steals (four). Senior guard Emelia Beldon (Frederick, Md.) tallied six points, grabbed six rebounds, passed out three assists and made two steals as she gritted out 35 minutes on the court. Freshman guard Crystal Salit (Boyds, Md.) scored five points while Rocha tallied three points and three rebounds in the loss.
Randolph was led by guard Kylie Stark as she made 3 of 7 shots from 3-point range and finished with a team-high 15 points to go with five rebounds, three steals, one assist and one block. Stark was matched by Teniyah Crewshaw, who finished with 15 points and five boards, while Simone Brown grabbed a game-high 12 rebounds to go with seven points.
