Freshmen power Gallaudet to a 50-point win at home over Trinity Washington

WASHINGTON - The Gallaudet University women's basketball team rolled to its first win of the 2019-20 season here Monday night with an 88-38 win over Trinity Washington University in the Field House.

Gallaudet (1-1) scored the game's first 10 points in two minutes and never looked back en route to the 50-point win. The Bison used a 20-0 run to close out the first quarter as they led 34-7. GU outscored Trinity (0-2) by 13 points (20-7) in the second quarter as the Bison led 54-14 at the half.

In the second half, Gallaudet unloaded its bench players as the game was at hand. 

Four different Bison finished the game in double figures. Freshmen Cassidy Perry (Frederick, Md.) and Sunita Schmidjorg (Austin, Texas) led the way with 24 and 23 points, respectively. Perry was a perfect 11-for-11 from the field and made both free throw attempts to go with seven rebounds, three steals, two blocks and two assists. Schmidjorg tallied her first double-double as she made 10 steals and passed out five assists and grabbed five boards. Junior Kendall Hudson (Blissfield, Mich.) and junior Emelia Beldon (Frederick, Md.) added 10 points each. Beldon passed out a game-high eight assists and Hudson had seven rebounds and five assists. Freshman guard Rajena Guettler (Frederick, Md.) ripped down a career best 11 rebounds to go with six points, two steals and two assists. 

Trinity was paced by center Davia Cain's 17 points, eight rebounds and five blocks.

  • Perry has made 12 straight field goals dating back to the Goucher game (Nov. 11)

Gallaudet is back in action after Thanksgiving when the Bison play host to Hunter College (1-2) on Saturday, Nov. 30, at 2 p.m. in the Field House.
