Gallaudet women's basketball defeats Lancaster Bible for the first time in series history

LANCASTER, Pa. - A strong start here Wednesday night allowed Gallaudet University's women's basketball team to jump out in front of Lancaster Bible College in a North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) contest and never look back.  Gallaudet outscored the host Chargers 53-38 over the course of the second and third quarters en route to a 89-67 win.

Gallaudet (5-3, 2-1 NEAC) defeats Lancaster Bible (2-6, 0-3 NEAC) for the first time in program history in the 15th meeting between the two programs.

The Bison shot 48 percent from the field (36-for-75) and drained five 3-pointers and made 80 percent (12 of 15) shots from the free throw line.

Five different Bison reached double figures led by senior guard/forward Hannah Neild (Litchfield, N.H.), who poured in 27 points to go with five rebounds, five steals, two assists and one block. Neild made 10 of 14 shots from the field, which included three 3-pointers, as she tallied 20+ points for the seventh game this season, sixth straight.

Senior guard Sabina Shysh (Tucson, Ariz.) scored 16 points, nine rebounds, six assists and three steals. Sophomore guard Jakkisha Smith (Dallas, Texas) scored 15 points off the bench and recorded five rebounds, four assists and a game-high seven steals. 

Junior guard Kendall Hudson (Blissfield, Mich.) netted 12 points, five rebounds, three assists and two steals while sophomore guard Emelia Beldon (Frederick, Md.) chipped in 11 points and passed out a game-high eight assists and snagged three rebounds and three steals.

The scoring duo of Caitlin Hickey and Courtney Goyak did all of the damage for the Chargers as the pair combined for 42 of LBC's 67 points. Hickey led the way with 23 points while Goyak tallied a double-double with 19 points and 19 rebounds.

Gallaudet will head south to St. Mary's College of Maryland (1-5) on Saturday, Dec. 8, for a 2 p.m. non-conference game.
