Bison rebound with a victory over Cazenovia, 86-71

WASHINGTON - The Gallaudet University women's basketball team left it all on the court with a 86-71 victory over Cazenovia College in a North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) game here Sunday afternoon in the Field House on Padden Court.

Junior Hannah Neild (Litchfield, N.H.) scored a new career-high of 33 points for the Bison (6-9, 4-3 NEAC) and reached double figures with 11 rebounds. Kelsey Hudson (Blissfield, Mich.) was the second Bison to record a double-double as she tallied 12 points and grabbed a season-high 15 rebounds. The senior forward made a clutch three-pointer at the buzzer to send GU into the locker room with a 39-29 lead at the half.

The Wildcats (4-8, 1-5 NEAC) would not go easy in the second half. Cazenovia made a run in the third quarter to cut the margin to two points, 45-43, at the 5:48 mark. That was as close as Cazenovia got as Gallaudet scored 10 points, in just over a minute, to put them up by double figures once more.

GU entered the fourth quarter with an 11-point lead, 64-55, and held on for the 15-point victory.

Freshman guard Emelia Beldon (Frederick, Md.) recorded a career-high nine assists to go with a game-high four steals, eight points and seven rebounds. Junior guard Sabina Shysh (Tucson, Ariz.) scored 11 points and passed five assists while junior forward Kelli Barnes (Cliffside, N.C.) tallied the second most points GU with a season-high 16 points.

Cazenovia had four players in double figures led by Danielle Caivana and Skylar Girard as they scored 17 points each.
