Neild nets a career-high 30 in tough loss to Wells

Box Score

WASHINGTON - The Gallaudet University women's basketball team played hard in a 67-64 loss to Wells College in a North Eastern Atlantic Conference (NEAC) game here Saturday in the Field House on Padden Court.

Junior Hannah Neild (Litchfield, N.H.) scored a career-high 30 points for the Bison as she made four three-pointers and went 10 of 12 from the free throw line. Neild had the opportunity to tie the game in the waning seconds but her bid for a fifth three-pointer went unfilled. Neild's miss turned into two points when junior guard Sabina Shysh (Tucson, Ariz.) made a lay-up.

Wells (3-10, 2-3 NEAC) called a quick timeout with 14 seconds left as it clung to a one-point lead, 65-64.

GU had two fouls to give before Shelby Medovich (12 points, nine rebounds) toed the free throw line for two attempts, which she made, with nine ticks left on the clock.

The Bison (5-9, 3-3 NEAC) made one final attempt to send the game into overtime when freshman guard Emelia Beldon (Frederick, Md.) heaved a three-point shot attempt, that missed, as time expired.

Gallaudet and Wells played close throughout as neither team led by more than seven points.

The Express came out of the gates on fire and built a quick 7-0 lead, its largest of the game, before Gallaudet regrouped and eventually took an 18-14 lead when the first quarter concluded.

GU took its largest lead of the game at the 9:42 mark on a Shysh made jumper as the Bison went up 20-14. Wells responded with a 14-3 run over the next four minutes to take a 28-23 lead. The Express led 34-32 at the half.

Beldon finished the game with 10 points, seven rebounds and passed out a game best eight assists. Shysh was the third Bison to reach double figures as she tallied 10 points and grabbed five rebounds.
