Bison tripped up by Eagles in NEAC home contest

WASHINGTON - The Gallaudet University women's basketball team fell to College of Saint Elizabeth, 56-45, Sunday afternoon in a North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) game in the Field House.

Gallaudet (2-8, 2-4 NEAC) led 16-15 after the first quarter but was doubled up in the second quarter, 14-7, and trailed 29-23 at the half. Saint Elizabeth (6-4, 4-1 NEAC) outscored Gallaudet 27-22 in the second half.

Freshman guard Jakkisha Smith (Dallas, Texas) led the Bison with 16 points, four rebounds, three steals, two assists and one block before fouling out. Smith helped to push the Gallaudet offense, which scored 22 fast-break points.

GU was hampered by foul trouble as four players had four or more fouls with two disqualifications. Junior forward Kelsey Hudson (Blissfield, Mich.) exited early with three points and six rebounds in 25 minutes of action.

Sophomore forward Kelli Barnes (Hope Mills, N.C.) led the Bison with nine rebounds to go with three points while junior guard Tuesdae Dunklin (Gardendale, Ala.) came off the bench to net eight points in the loss.

Saint Elizabeth was led by Deja Ingram's double-double (12 points, 11 rebounds) and Danesha Triplett's 13 points and nine rebounds.

  • The two teams shot 27.4 percent (Saint Elizabeth) and 27.3 percent (Gallaudet) from the field
  • The Eagles went to the foul line 33 times and made 14 shots (42.4 percent)
  • Saint Elizabeth out-rebounded Gallaudet 64-49
  • The Eagles scored 14 second-chance points off 28 offensive rebounds

Gallaudet will conclude its three-game homestand on Thursday, Jan. 12, with a conference game against Penn St.-Abington (4-5, 2-2 NEAC) at 5 p.m.
