Gallaudet women's team moves into second place in NEAC South Division with win

WASHINGTON – The Gallaudet University women's basketball team won, 73-57, a key North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC)South Division game over Bryn Athyn College here Tuesday night in the Field House. The clutch win moves Gallaudet (12-10, 11-6 NEAC) into second place in the NEAC South Division ahead of Bryn Athyn (14-10, 12-7 NEAC).

Gallaudet received a complete team effort to overtake Bryn Athyn as every Bison in uniform saw time on the court. GU had a strong first quarter building a 29-17 lead. Sophomore guard Sabina Shysh (Tucson, Ariz.) got off to a hot start with 17 points and four rebounds in the first 10 minutes of play. Senior forward Danielle Morris (St. Louis, Mich.) made a last-second shot to give GU a 12-point lead heading into the second quarter. The Bison led 43-26 at halftime.

GU continued to rack up the points in the third quarter as it outscored Bryn Athyn, 17-13. In one sequence, senior guard Zamica Gage (Washington, D.C.) grabbed a defensive rebound and took the ball down the court and made a layup to double up the Lions, 56-28, at the 6:35 mark. The 28-point lead was the largest of the game for the Bison.

Once again, Gage led the Bison scorers with 25 points (17 in the second half) to go with eight rebounds, six assists, two steals and one block. Shysh was right behind Gage with an impressive 23 points, a new career high, to go with seven rebounds and two steals. Sophomore guard Darriyan Thomas (Vallejo, Calif.) played a strong game under the net, as she led the team with a career-high 10 rebounds, while Morris and Shysh each added seven rebounds.

Bryn Athyn was led by junior guard Kristina Clark with 22 points and 17 rebounds.
