GU women's basketball holds off Penn St.-Berks, 65-58

READING, Pa.- The Gallaudet University women's basketball team won its third straight North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) game here Friday night with a 65-58 win over Penn St.-Berks.

Senior guard Zamica Gage (Washington, D.C.) scored a game-high 22 points and grabbed five rebounds and four steals in the win. Sophomore guard Sabina Shysh (Tucson, Ariz.) added 14 points and seven rebounds. Sophomore forward Kelsey Hudson (Blissfield, Mich.), who played another tough game under the net, led the team in rebounds (12) and added six points and two assists.

Penn St.-Berks (2-13, 2-9 NEAC) jumped out to a 9-2 lead midway through the first quarter before Gallaudet (9-6, 8-3 NEAC) took its first lead at the 2:52 mark on a 3-pointer by senior guard Danielle Warren (San Jose, Calif.). The Bison didn't look back and led the rest of the way.

GU began the fourth quarter with a 14-point lead, 51-37, but Penn St.-Berks cut it to three, 61-58, in the waning seconds but ran out of time to complete the comeback. The Bison iced the game at the free throw line as they made four straight in the last 15 seconds.

The Nittany Lions had three players score in double digits led by guard Deanna Daddona (19 points), who sank five 3-pointers. Guards Cassidy Schultz and Dakota Dawson added 15 and 14 points, respectively. Dawson completed the double-double with 10 rebounds and five blocks.

Gallaudet will remain in Pennsylvania as its travels to Lancaster Bible College (12-3, 9-1 NEAC) tomorrow (Saturday, Jan. 30) for a 5 p.m. tip against the top team in the NEAC South Division.
