Gallaudet sails past Penn St.-Berks as five players net double figures

READING, Pa. – The Gallaudet University women's basketball team cruised to an 84-55 convincing victory over Penn St.-Berks Tuesday night in a North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) clash. This win ends the Bison's three-game losing streak.

Gallaudet (9-10, 6-4 NEAC) and Penn St.-Berks (3-15, 3-8 NEAC) were even for the first five minutes of the game as the two teams were knotted at 10 at the 15:29 mark. GU then hit three 3-pointer, in only two minutes, going on an 11-2 run as it took the lead and never looked back. At the end of the half, the Bison went into the locker room with a 25-point lead, 49-24, and complete control of the game.

The Bison picked up right where they left off in the first half, staying in front of the Nittany Lions by at least 20 points for the remainder of the game. At the halfway mark of the second half, the Bison held a comfortable 32-point lead up, 71-39. Although the Nittnay Lions outscored the Bison 16-13 in the final 10 minutes of the game, the Bison were able to easily coast to the final buzzer with an impressive 29-point victory.

The Bison had five players net double-digit point totals in the win over Penn St.-Berks. The scoring was lead by senior forward Lindsay Stergio (Montville, Conn.), who scored a game-high 24 points as she went 12-for-18 from the field while also grabbing eight rebounds. Junior forward Lane Peters (Phoenix, Ariz.) posted a double-double for the second game in a row with 14 points and a game-high 12 rebounds. Peters also hmatched the game-high with six assists.  Junior guard Danielle Warren (San Jose, Calif.) and senior guard Britny Latham (Cleveland, Tenn.) both added 12 points each while senior guard Stephanie Weiss (Wellington, Fla.) chipped in 10 points and passed out six assists.

Penn St.-Berks was lead by Shanelle Koch and Cassidy Schultz, who each scored 12 points.

The Bison return home to host SUNY Cobleskill in a NEAC game on Saturday, Feb. 8, at 3 p.m. The Bison will celebrate WBCA's Play 4Kay Pink Day, all fans are encouraged to wear something pink to show their support.
