Hayes scored 22 points and grabbed 13 rebounds tonight, but it
wasn't enough as Gallaudet fell to St. Mary's (MD) College 67-56.
The game was much closer than the final score indicated as
Gallaudet was within one with 13 minutes left, before St. Mary's
went on a 7-0 run and the Bison weren't able to catch up. Gallaudet
played a great defensive game, forcing 29 turnovers.
In addition to her 22 points and 13 rebounds, Hayes made 3
steals, had 3 assists and 2 blocks. Brittainy Payne
scored 12 points, grabbed 7 rebounds, and had 4 steals and 4
assists. Andrea
Amati provided a spark off the bench with 7 points and 5
rebounds. Both teams are 4-10 this season.
After the game Gallaudet
Head Coach Kevin Cook praised his team's effort, but also
pointed out what needs to be improved. "We battled today, but
the game was decided with rebounding. We cannot give up the amount
of offensive rebounds we gave up today and expect to win." Despite
the rebounding, Coach Cook was pleased with his team's
effort. "We gave a great account of ourselves with hustle and
all out effort. It does not show up in the win column, but we are
continuing to improve in several areas."
After playing 6 of 8 games on the road, the Bison look forward
to returning home to play in front of the student body Wednesday
night at the Field House at 6 pm vs York. Coach Cook said, "We look
forward to feeding off the energy off our home crowd Wednesday
night vs. Capital Athletic Conference leader York."
