Gallaudet Jumps to Early Lead: Falters Against Salisbury 68-45

Box Score

Gallaudet came to play today and jumped to a quick 8-2 lead against Salisbury, but was unable to keep the pace for 40 minutes, and were defeated 68-45.

After Gallaudet took the 8-3 lead at the five minute mark of the first half, Salisbury went on a 24-5 run to end the half, and go up 26-13, and Gallaudet was never able to make it close in the second half, despite the efforts of Nukeitra Hayes, Brittainy Payne, and Ursa Rewolinski. Hayes had another brilliant all-around game scoring 17 points, grabbing 8 rebounds, blocking 5 shots, and making 3 steals.  Payne scored 11 points and had 7 rebounds and Rewolinski had 11 rebounds.

After the game, Gallaudet Head Coach Kevin Cook said there were two main reasons for the loss today.  "Today we did not execute on the offensive end and at times Salisbury out hustled us." But Coach Cook also promised Bison fans that the team will continue to practice and play hard the rest of the season.  "We will continue to work at improving all phases of our game, but the reality is that opportunities continue to slip away."

With the loss, Gallaudet is 4-9 this year.  Salisbury is 2-13.  Gallaudet will have just one day off, before they travel to Southern Maryland to face St. Mary's College Monday at 12 pm.  This game was moved up from it's original 6 pm start time due to road closures into Washington DC, Monday night.
