The Lady Bison visited host Catholic University in CAC play,
seeking their third win of the season. The effort turned up
short, as the Cardinals dispatched the Bison, 57-41.
The Cardinal offense, led by Maria Rojas's 19 points, seemed
to falter at times as the Bison put together stretches of offensive
runs, bringing the game within reach. In the first half, the
score was 18-14 at one point, with the Bison defense holding the
Cardinals scoreless and scoring aggressively after Catholic had
built a 10-1 lead.
The second half plagued the Bison with missed scoring
opportunities and relentless turnovers. Nonetheless, the Buff
and Blue came as close as 9 points after being down 20
points. This was the closest the Bison would come, due to
Catholic's effective full-court press and forcing Bison
turnovers. Freshman Brittainy Payne fought for a team-high 13
points, and 9 rebounds. Senior forward Jessica Salisbury
pulled down 10 rebounds to lead the charge off the boards, and
added 7 points.
The Bison committed 36 turnovers overall, contributing to the
Cardinals' scoring advantages. Another factor was the
lack of long-range shooting; the Bison did not attempt to score
from downtown.
Gallaudet (2-12, 0-5 CAC) hosts Marymount (10-6, 5-1 CAC) on
Tuesday, January 23. The ball goes up at 6 p.m.
