ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. – The Gallaudet University women's outdoor track and field team opened the 2026 season here Saturday at the Seahawk Invitational, hosted by St. Mary's College of Maryland. There were no team scores at the meet.
First year Jala Furdge (Brandon, Miss.) led the Bison in the 1,500-meter run as she placed ninth overall with a time of 6:46.18.
Junior Olivia Armstrong (Rotterdam, N.Y.) finished eighth in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 26:12.47.
In the field events, sophomore Mackenzie Schirg (Factoryville, Pa.) turned in a strong day with a fourth-place finish in the javelin throw with a top toss of 30.79 meters (101 feet). Schirg also placed sixth in the discus throw with a mark of 26.72 meters (87 feet, eight inches). Teammate Sara Duncan (Mesa, Ariz.) added a 10th-place finish in the discus with a throw of 19.00 meters (62 feet, four inches).
First year Tori Cushshon (St. Louis, Mo.) placed seventh in the shot put with a mark of 8.81 meters (28 feet, 11 inches).
UP NEXT
Gallaudet will be off next week before hosting the annual Bison Classic in conjunction with Howard University on Saturday, April 11. The meet is scheduled to begin at approximately 9:30 a.m.
