Bison finish ninth at 2026 United East Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championships

LA PLUME, Pa. – The second day of the 2026 United East Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championships came to a close here Sunday at the Turf Field Athletic Complex on the campus of Keystone College.

Gallaudet University finished ninth out of nine teams with five points. St. Mary's College of Maryland successfully defended its title with a whopping 236 team points. Penn St. Harrisburg was second with 183 points while Lancaster Bible College took third (152 team points) to round out the podium of the two-day championship that featured 20 events. Cedar Crest College was a distant fourth place (87) followed by University of Valley Forge in fifth (27), Carlow University in sixth (26), Penn St.-Abington placed seventh (12) and the host Giants were eighth (eight) just ahead of GU.

Sophomore thrower Mackenzie Schirg (Factoryville, Pa.) finished seventh in the discus throw with a top toss of 31.18 meters (102 feet, three inches). First year Tori Cushshon (St. Louis, Mo.) was several spots behind in 11th place with a top mark of 24.15 meters (79 feet, two inches) in the discus.

In the afternoon, Cushshon was the lone Bison in the shot put event where she finished 18th with a top toss of 7.66 meters (25 feet, 1.75 inches).

Over on the track, first year Jala Furdge (Brandon, Miss.) ran in the 1,500-meter run and took 12th place with a time of 6:25.11. Junior Olivia Armstrong (Rotterdam, N.Y.) ran her final race in the 5,000-meter run and crossed the finish line in 11th place with a time of 26 minutes and 5.34 seconds.

St. Mary's Rocksann Smith had a big day on both the track and in the field as she scored 43 team points and won the javelin. SMC freshman London Best tallied 26 points on the track with wins in the 100- and 200-meter dash to earn Co-Track Athlete of the Year and Co-Rookie of the Year. Seahawk junior Jillian Zukley won the hammer and shot put and took second in the discus to earn Field Athlete of the Year. St. Mary's (Md.) head coach Reava Potter repeated as United East Women's Outdoor Track and Field Coach of the Year.

Best shared her two awards with Penn St. Harrisburg freshman MaKayla Reichel who recorded 26 points for the Lions with a win in the 3,000-meter steeplechase and second-place finish in the 5,000- and 10,000-meter runs.
