Gallaudet picks up two ODAC Player of the Week awards

FOREST, Va. - The Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) announced its weekly honors for the week of Sept. 21 and Gallaudet University earned two honors. Junior linebacker Dawson Ethington (Baltimore, Md.) was selected as Defensive Player of the Week while senior wide receiver/return specialist Andrae' Green (Washington, D.C.) was picked as Special Teams Player of the Week.

Ethington, a junior from Baltimore, Md., was a menace on defense in helping Gallaudet claim a 39-30 victory over Averett in the Bison's first ODAC league game. The win also evened GU's record at 1-1 following a bye last week. Ethington was on the spot for a game-high 13 tackles including 10 solo stops. The majority of his tackles occurred within three yards of the line of scrimmage, while also got into the backfield twice. On back-to-back plays, Ethington registered a solo sack and a stop for a one-yard gain in the second quarter deep in GU territory that helped limit Averett to a 28-yard field goal. He also joined teammate Jacob Hundley (McKee, Ky.) on a TFL late in the third quarter. For the season, Ethington has made 17 tackles (13 solo) over two games with 2.5 TFLs including a pair of sacks.

Green, a senior from Washington, D.C., contributed both on special teams and offense to help Gallaudet post a 39-30 home win over Averett to not only even its record at 1-1 coming off a bye week, but post the first Bison win in their first ODAC league game. Green returned four kickoffs for 118 yards over the course of the game. His 51-yard burst at the outset of the fourth quarter set up the GU offense deep in Cougar territory, which led to a Bison touchdown and a 33-24 lead. Green got involved in the offense and scoring in the third quarter. He caught his only pass of the game for a 21-yard touchdown to give GU a 27-17 lead with 1:15 to play in the third quarter. Through two games, Green is averaging 27.5 yards on six kick returns (165 total yards).
