Brown-Gabriel scores three touchdowns in Gallaudet's loss at Dean

FRANKLIN, Mass. – Senior running back Marcus Brown-Gabriel (Beeville, Texas) rushed for a season-high 155 yards and three touchdowns Saturday afternoon, but the Gallaudet University football team fell to Dean College, 45-21, at Longley Athletic Complex.

The Bison (0-5) faced a familiar opponent in the Bulldogs (1-4), a former Eastern Collegiate Football Conference (ECFC) rival. Dean senior quarterback Chris Donohue threw for 529 yards and six touchdowns as the Bulldogs picked up their first win of the season.

Brown-Gabriel carried the ball 22 times, averaged seven yards per rush and scored on runs of five, one and 13 yards. He also caught two passes for 43 yards to finish with 198 yards from scrimmage. It marked his third career 100-yard rushing game.

Dean jumped out to a 14-0 first-quarter lead before Brown-Gabriel scored on a five-yard run early in the second quarter. The Bulldogs added another touchdown to take a 21-7 advantage into halftime.

The Bulldogs extended their lead to 33-7 in the third quarter before Gallaudet answered with a seven-play, 75-yard drive. Sophomore quarterback Jayden DeFalco (Indianapolis, Ind.) connected with sophomore wide receiver Isaiah Baxter (Riverside, Calif.) for a 46-yard gain to the Dean 1-yard line. Brown-Gabriel scored on the next play.

Dean answered with a 71-yard touchdown pass before Brown-Gabriel scored his third touchdown on a 13-yard run early in the fourth quarter. He added the two-point conversion reception to cut the deficit to 39-21 with 12:46 remaining. The Bulldogs added a late rushing touchdown to close out the scoring.

Gallaudet finished with 367 yards of total offense, including 160 rushing yards. DeFalco passed for 134 yards, while junior quarterback Stevie Oursler (Prince Frederick, Md.) added 73 yards through the air.

First-year defensive back Josiah Garner (East Arcadia, N.C.) led the Bison with 10 tackles, while first-year defensive back Niven Zhang (Austin, Texas) intercepted a pass in the end zone. First-year defensive lineman Xavier Gamboa (Ontario, Calif.) recorded a sack.

Donohue completed 37 of 55 passes for 529 yards and six touchdowns. Senior wide receiver Da'Qwon Foster caught 13 passes for 167 yards and two touchdowns, while sophomore wide receiver Tay Sholtz finished with nine receptions for 152 yards and three scores. Dean totaled 615 yards of offense.
