WASHINGTON – It was a memorable day for the Gallaudet University women's volleyball team who swept two California schools to wrap up the Worthington Classic on the second and final day of the tournament in the Field House.
The day was also memorable for senior outside hitter
Citrine Lummer (Frederick, Md.), who recorded 1,000 career digs and 1,000 kills today. Lummer achieved the milestone with 1,000 career digs in the first match vs. University of California, Santa Cruz and 1,000 career kills in the second match vs. Whittier College.
GU bounced back from two losses yesterday to defeat UC Santa Cruz and Whittier College on Saturday. The Bison (8-5) played a thriller five-set match and won, 3-2, over the Bananas Slugs (8-6) by the score of 16-25, 25-20, 18-25, 25-17, 15-5.
In the second match against the Poets (7-3), GU dropped the first set but regrouped to win the next three sets; 22-25, 25-17, 25-19, 25-14.
Junior outside hitter
Brielle Worley (Amarillo, Texas) was named to the all-tournament team. Worley wrapped up the second day of the Worthington Classic with 48 kills, 28 digs and four aces. Lummer added 18 kills and 34 digs.
Junior setter
Ella Gamble (Cullowhee, N.C.) had a season-high eight aces over the Poets and finished the long day with 83 assists and 19 digs. Senior libero
Nicole Hicks (Corona, Calif.) finished with 41 digs.
First-year middle hitter
Kayla Debrow (Jacksonville, Fla.) had a solid day with a career-high five kills and six blocks against UC Santa Cruz and finished the night with two blocks and three kills against Whittier.
UP NEXT
Gallaudet will host Goucher College (5-6) on Wednesday, Sept. 24, at 7 p.m. in a non-conference match in the Field House.
