ABOUT THE WORTHINGTON CLASSIC
The Worthington Classic is named in honor of legendary Gallaudet University volleyball coach Peg Worthington, who coached the Bison from 1970-81 and 1984-1997. During her 26 seasons, Worthington amassed a school-best 615-305 record. In 1981, Worthington and the Bison finished with a 36-6 record and were ranked nationally for the first time in program history. The Bison also received their first-ever All-American under Coach Worthington. Four years later, GU reaches No. 6 in the nation and advance to the NCAA tournament and finish with a 44-6 mark. Nine of Worthington's former athletes have been inducted into the Gallaudet Athletic Hall of Fame. She also coached 26 Bison in five different Deaflympics. She also guided the Bison to three CAC championships. Worthington, a member of the Gallaudet Athletics Hall of Fame, was inducted into the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Hall of Fame in December 2013.
