TEMPE, Ariz. – Gallaudet University women's triathlon, in its second season, had one participant in the 2025 Women's Collegiate National Championships at Tempe Town Lake North Park hosted by Arizona State University.
Sophomore
Ashley Corcoran (Broussard, La.) represented GU and finished 187th overall and 48th among Division III competitors and earned four team points as the Bison finished 10th overall.
The 2025 Women's Collegiate National Championships featured competitors across all divisions (I, II, III) through three waves, consisting of a 750-meter swim, 20 kilometer bike, and five kilometer run.
North Central College won the national championship for Division III teams for a fourth consecutive year with 450 points out of 10 teams. Trine University placed second, again, with 392 team points followed by Central College (272) in third, Willamette University (261) in fourth and Millikin University (178) in fifth. North Central's Bethany Smeed won the Division III individual championship with a time of 1:10.13 in 64th place in the final overall standings and first among Division III competitors.
Corcoran posted a time of one hour, 35 minutes and 33.1 seconds (1:35:33.1). She finished the 750-meter swim in 17:42 and had a transition of 1:33.6 to the bike. Out on the road course, Corcoran clocked in at 46:27.2 on the bike and then posted a transition time of 2:52.3. On the 5K run, she recorded a time of 28:57.
The University of Arizona defended its Division I national championship with 927 points to edge out the host Sun Devils. The Wildcats had five finishers in the Top 10 including senior Kelly Wetteland, who won the Division I individual championship with an overall time of one hour, two minutes and nine seconds (1:02:09.1). Last year's national champion Naomi Ruff from Arizona State University was ninth this year (1:03.50.4).
Lenoir-Rhyne University dethroned defending Division II national champion Wingate University by four points. The Bears finished with 762 points while Wingate had 758. This is the third Division II national championship for Lenoir-Rhyne in four years. Lenoir-Rhyne University junior Zoila Sicilia won the Division II individual championship with an overall time of 1:03:59.0 in 11th place and first among Division II competitors.
"We are proud of Ashley for representing Gallaudet here at the national championship," said Gallaudet coach
Brian Bennett. "She raced under challenging desert conditions which consisted of high temperatures, dry air and minimal shade throughout the course. Ashley showed her composure and endurance throughout the competition. While it wasn't her best performance, the result was a testament to her determination, discipline and resilience in the face of tough race conditions."
GU had a special guest cheering Ashley on in
President Roberta "Bobbi" Cordano who was on hand to cheer and support the Bison.
SUN DEVIL TRIATHLON CLASSIC
Gallaudet had two of its triathletes compete in the Sun Devil Triathlon Classic that was held earlier in the morning before the 2025 Women's Collegiate National Championships. Sophomore
Alecia Miller (Litchfield, Ill.) and first year
Jasmine Jimenez Lara (Gilroy, Calif.) represented the Bison triathlon team. Jimenez Lara finished the triathlon in 1:39:28.9 with Miller close behind in 1:42:54.1. The duo showed great sportsmanship during the competition and helped to cheer and support Corcoran on the course later in the day.
