Gallaudet's Hannah Wetzel and Oceana Brown officially make 2024 NCAA Division III outdoor track and field championship field

INDIANAPOLIS - The NCAA Division III Men's and Women's Track and Field Committee announced the participants in the 2024 NCAA Division III Men's and Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championships.

For each individual event contested, including the decathlon and heptathlon, the top 22 declared student-athletes were accepted into the competition. For each relay event contested, the top 16 declared relay teams, one per institution, were accepted into the competition.

Gallaudet University senior jumper Hannah Wetzel (Fremont, Calif.) made the cut in the women's high jump. This is Wetzel's first appearance at the NCAA outdoor championships and second overall after an indoor championship appearance earlier this year. First-year sprinter Oceana Brown (Miami, Fla.) will make her NCAA outdoor championship debut when she runs in the 200-meter dash. The Bison pair are the first Gallaudet women's track and field student athletes under Head Coach Byron Moore to make the NCAA Outdoor Championships.

Wetzel posted one of the top marks in the high jump this season when she cleared 1.68 meters (5 feet, 6 inches) back on April 20 at the Gallaudet University Invitational.

Wetzel is tied for the 18th highest mark this outdoor season (1.68 meters) with seven other jumpers from across the country. Only five of the seven jumpers made the final 22 cut. Loras College junior Grace Alley enters the high jump competition with the top mark of 1.75 meters (5 feet, 8.75 inches).

Brown's top 200-meter time of 24.32 seconds was set earlier this week on May 13 at the Widener University Final Qualifier.

Brown posted the 13th fastest time in the 200-meter dash this season. University of Wisconsin-La Crosse sophomore Lauren Jarrett enters the 200-meter dash competition with the top mark of 23.97 seconds.

Wetzel and Brown will joined by All-American sprinter Eric Gregory (Metairie, La.), the lone GU men's representative, at the 2024 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships. Gregory, the two-time defending NCAA Division III national champion in the 400-meter dash, will run in the 100-, 200- and 400-meter dash events.

The championships will be held May 23-25 at Doug Shaw Memorial Stadium in Myrtle Beach, S.C., and hosted by Coastal Carolina University and Myrtle Beach Sports. The 200-meter dash preliminaries will be held on Thursday, May 23, at 6:40 p.m. The high jump will take place on Friday, May 24, at 1:30 p.m. The 200-meter dash final will he held on Saturday, May 25, at 6:40 p.m.
