Gallaudet’s Hannah Wetzel named the Women’s Most Outstanding Performer at ECAC Outdoor Championships for a second straight year

OWINGS MILLS, Md. – Gallaudet University's women's track and field program battled through rainy and chilly conditions and finished fourth overall Friday at the 2024 Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships hosted by Stevenson University. Senior jumper Hannah Wetzel (Fremont, Calif.) was named the Women's Most Outstanding Performer of the Meet for the second time in a row.

Gallaudet finished with 68 team points as McDaniel College won the championship with 118 points followed by Hood College (108) and Medgar Evers College (90). Overall, 13 women's teams participated in this year's ECAC outdoor championships.

Wetzel finished first in three events; high jump (1.50 meters), long jump (5.27 meters) and was a member of 4x100 meter relay (51.44). Wetzel placed second in the triple jump (11.30 meters). 

First-year sprinter Oceana Brown (Miami, Fla.) won all three events; 100-meter dash (12.57), 200-meter dash (26.29) and was a member of 4x100 meter relay (51.44).

Sophomore Priscilla Berrios (Miami, Fla.) and sophomore Olivia Brown (Miami, Fla.) were also part of the 4x100 meter relay that placed first overall with a time of 51.44 seconds.

In the throwing events, junior thrower Renae Thigpen (Hampton, Ga.) finished third in the discus with a top toss of 27.36 meters (89 feet, 9 inches) and junior Lilian Nelson (Minneapolis, Minn.) placed 12th overall with a top toss of 19.17 meters (62 feet, 10 inches).

Nelson also participated in javelin and finished fifth overall with a top toss of 21.11 meters (69 feet, 3 inches). Nelson participated in the pole vault and did not clear a height in her three attempts.
