WAKE FOREST, N.C. - The Gallaudet University women's triathlon team made history Saturday as the Bison competed at the East Regional Qualifier for the first time in school history.
The Bison did not secure a team score as all GU triathletes got lapped out during the competition that was held at Sandling Beach Recreation Area.
The top Division III finisher was Trine University junior Grace Huisman with a time of 1:05:08.7. There were only 10 Division III triathletes that completed the race.
Gallaudet's top swimmer was
Mara Land (Dell Rapids, S.D.) who finished with a time of 14:21 followed by
Kathe Wilken-Yoder (Oviedo, Fla.) with a time of 15:56.
Talia Boren (Fair Oaks, Calif.) finished the swimming portion in 17:48 followed by
Alecia Miller (Litchfield, Ill.) with a time of 19:00. The last Bison that posted a swim time was
Ashley Corcoran (Broussard, La.) with a time of 20:15. Miller and Corcoran did not make it on the bike course because of being lapped out.
Wilken-Yoder went the longest on the bike course before getting lapped out in the seventh mile. Boren was lapped out in the fourth mile and Land in the first mile. In total, 10 Division III triathletes got lapped out or did not finish.
The top Division I triathlete finisher was Queens University of Charlotte junior Beth Cook with a time of 58 minutes and nine seconds. There were 67 Division I triathletes with eight not finishing the event.
The top Division II triathlete finisher was Lenoir-Rhyne University junior Sabrina Fleig with a time of 1:00:07.8. There were 40 Division II triathletes in the meet with two did not finish results.

GU will find out if any of its triathletes are selected to the Women's Collegiate National Championships in the coming weeks. The national championship meet will be held in Clermont, Fla., on Saturday, Nov. 9, at 10 a.m. at Lake Louisa State Park.
