March is National Athletic Training Month, an opportunity to spread awareness of the impact athletic trainers (ATs) have on work, life and sport. Athletic trainers are health care professionals that prevent, diagnose, treat and rehabilitate injuries for active people in many industries, including sports, military and clinical practice.
This year's slogan is "There's an AT for that."
Getting to Know: Teri Wood (4th season)
Wood is in her 4th year full-time on the Gallaudet Athletic Training staff. She joined the GU staff in Fall 2019 after becoming a certified trainer in May 2018. The Central Michigan University graduate, interned with Gallaudet in 2018. Wood graduated from Concord University with a master's degree in Health Promotion in May 2020.
Q: In your spare time, what are your hobbies and/or favorite things to do?
TW: In my spare time, I enjoy hiking with my dog, camping, or spending time at the lake with my family.
Q: What three words would your best friend use to describe you?
TW: Funny, stubborn, adventurous
Q: When you were a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?
TW: I wanted to be a veterinarian.
Q: Who do you consider your role model / who you look up to and why?
TW: Sue Falsone is my role model. She was the first female head athletic trainer in any of the four major sports in the United States (MLB, NFL, NHL, NBA), and really paved the way for women in athletic training.
Q: What is your phobia / what is something that you are afraid of?Â
TW: Cockroaches
Q: What is your favorite quote?
TW: "Treat everyday like a new hand in a game of cards."
