KILLINGWORTH, Conn. - The Eastern Collegiate Football Conference (ECFC) announced its weekly honors for the week of Oct. 2 and Gallaudet University earned two Player of the Week honors. Junior super back Dre'Vaughn Mackall (Prince Frederick, Md.) was selected as Offensive Player of the Week while sophomore defensive back Carter Johnson (McCall, Idaho) shared the Defensive Player of the Week honor.
Mackall rushed for an ECFC season-best and career-high 158 yards on 25 carries against Nichols College last Saturday on the road. Mackall averaged 6.3 yards per rush with a long of 51 yards. His first touchdown gave Gallaudet an early 7-0 lead just over three minutes into the first quarter. Mackall's his second score came early in the third quarter to cut the Nichols' lead to a one score game, 34-28. Mackall's two touchdowns ties a career high.
Johnson tallied 11 tackles (seven solo) and made 1.5 tackles for a loss as GU lost 55-28 to Nichols. Johnson blocked a punt, his first of his career, which led to Gallaudet's first score. Johnson broke-up a pass en route to setting a career-high for tackles and tackles for a loss totals. Johnson shared the Defensive Player of the Week award with Vermont State Castleton defensive back Dawson Pierson, who made seven tackles, one interception and one forced fumble.
ECFC AWARDS
Alfred State senior safety Rylie Van Fleet was named Special Teams Player of the Week while Dean College freshman wide receiver Dy'riece Smith was picked as the Rookie of the Week.
GU HONORS
This is Gallaudet's second and third ECFC Player of the Week awards this season. This is the first ECFC Player of the Week honor for both Mackall and Johnson.
