Box Score 2 READING, Pa. - A big third-set rally turned the tide for the Gallaudet University women's volleyball team here Saturday on the road against Penn St.-Berks in a key United East Conference match. The Bison rallied to win a thrilling 3-2 victory and swept Wells College to close out the regular-season schedule.
Gallaudet (19-14, 7-1 United East) down 21-23 rallied to score five of the next six points in the third set against Penn St.-Berks (18-9, 6-2 United East) and swept the fourth and fifth sets for a miraculous comeback in five, 3-2 (15-25, 20-25, 26-24, 25-17, 15-10).
The Bison made quick work of the Express (13-13, 2-6 United East) in the following match with a straight-set win; 25-17, 25-23, 25-14.
GU locks down the No. 2 seed in the upcoming women's volleyball tournament that will be played at top-seed SUNY Morrisville (21-7, 8-0 United East) next week (Nov. 4-5). The Bison will go up against Penn St.-Berks, the No. 3 seed, in Friday's semifinals.
In the five-set win over Penn St.-Berks the Bison were led upfront by junior Emily Wright (Penn Valley, Calif.) and freshman Citrine Lummer (Frederick, Md.) with 16 kills apiece. Freshman Enza Visco (Riverside, Calif.) passed out 36 assists and served up four service aces while freshman Nicole Hicks (Corona, Calif.) made a match best 24 digs and added two aces. Junior middle hitter Cassidy Perry (Frederick, Md.) led the Bison upfront with five blocks (one solo) as GU tallied eight blocks in the win. Sophomore outside hitter Hannah Weiss (Riverside, Calif.) was the third Bison in double figures for kills with 12.
Penn St.-Berks had three player record 10 or more kills as setter Julia Rathsam tallied a match-high 41 assists to go with 19 digs and three aces.
Lummer led the Bison against Wells with nine kills as Visco passed out 26 assists and Perry made two block solos.
Wells was paced by Miah Williamson's 10-kill performance in the loss.
