ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The Gallaudet University men's basketball team made the short trip to the Maryland capital city on Monday evening and played an exhibition game against the U.S. Naval Academy JV team in the Halsey Field House. The Bison hung tough with the taller Midshipmen in the first half before the home team pulled away to win 90-39.
Gallaudet was able to play its entire team in the exhibition to get valuable game experience for all the Bison. Navy jumped out to a quick lead to start the game before GU closed the gap to eight points, 19-11, in the first half. The Midshipmen closed out the first half on a strong run and took a 57-17 lead into halftime. The Bison scored 22 points in the second half.
The unofficial statistics showed Gallaudet's freshman guard Jeremiah Davis (Milwaukee, Wis.) scored a team-high seven points while sophomore forward Lance Wood (Fishers, Ind.) and freshman guard Malosi Viena (Waipahu, Hawaii) scored six points each.
The seven-member Navy JV team was led by freshman guard Kam Summers who recorded 31 points.
Earlier in the afternoon, the Gallaudet basketball travel party got the chance to tour the grounds and got on the main court at Alumni Hall. The team also got the chance to observe Navy's varsity basketball practice.
