Bison storm back to upend Keuka in overtime

KEUKA PARK, N.Y. - The Gallaudet University men's basketball team rallied in the second half and forced overtime here Saturday against Keuka College in a North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) cross-divisional game. In the extra period, GU scored 19 points to hand the Wolves a 91-84 defeat.

Gallaudet (5-17, 5-8 NEAC) erased a 15-point lead Keuka (9-11, 6-7 NEAC) held early in the second half. The Bison were able to whittle down the margin and forced the extra frame after sophomore guard Preston Kelly (Fishers, Ind.) made a jumper with six seconds left.

In overtime, junior guard Noah Valencia (Riverside, Calif.) made eight of his game-high 40 points, including two of his eight 3-pointers. Valencia finished with 40 points, four steals, three assists and three rebounds.

Freshman guard Corey Smith (Miami, Fla.) came off the bench to net 25 points to go with seven rebounds, four assists and three steals. Kelly tallied nine points, 11 rebounds, nine assists and two steals.

Keuka had three players in double figures led by guard Trevor Powell's 28 points and 14 rebounds. Fellow guard James Barnes matched Powell with his own double-double of 20 points and 14 rebounds. Powell scored his 1,000th career point at the 5:29 mark in the first half with a free throw.

GU scored the game's first five points and led briefly before Keuka took the lead and led by nine, 42-33, at the half.

Gallaudet remains in New York and will make the trip over to Aurora, N.Y., tomorrow (Sunday, Feb. 10) to take on the Wells College Express (4-17, 3-10 NEAC) at 2 p.m.
