SWEET BRIAR, Va. - The Gallaudet University men's swimming program dropped a 173-78 meet to Hampden-Sydney College here Saturday on the campus of Sweet Briar College in the Prothro Natatorium.
Gallaudet (2-6) won three of the 14 events against Hampden-Sydney (5-3).
Junior Ben Sealts (Ottawa, Ohio) won all three of his individual events he swam in on Saturday. Sealts was first in the 100-meter breaststroke as he touched the wall in 1:14.84 as he was over seven seconds faster than second place. He followed that up with a win in the 200-meter backstroke with a time of 2:20.82. In the same event, sophomore Barry McGrain III (Hemlock, N.Y.) was third with a time of 2:52.38. Sealts capped his three-win day with a first-place finish in the 200-meter IM with a time of 2:22.97.
Sealts, McGrain joined sophomore Nick Hohrman (Fergus Falls, Minn.) and freshman Solomon Worthey (San Diego, Calif.) in the 200-meter medley relay and placed third overall with a time of 2:23.00.
McGrain was third in the 200-meter butterfly with a time of 3:14.33 and fourth in the 100-meter butterfly (1:28.83).
Hohrman was third in the 200- and 400-meter freestyle events with times of 2:28.64 and 5:30.66, respectively.
Naveh Berner-Kadish (Takoma Park, Md.) made a nice debut with a third-place finish in the 100-meter backstroke (1:27.83) and 200-meter breaststroke (3:44.77).
Freshman Andrew Makarewicz (Gaylord, Mich.) was a distant second in the 800-meter freestyle with a logged time of 13:58.67.
BISON TRACKS
- Junior Rett Jala (McAllen, Texas) was fourth in three different events including; 100-meter backstroke (1:33.20), 200-meter breaststroke (4:13.13) and 200-meter IM (3:35.92)
- Junior Lukas Morkevicius (Seattle, Wash.) placed fourth in the 200-meter freestyle (2:56.46)
- Worthey was fourth in the 100-meter freestyle (1:17.74) followed by Morkevicius in fifth place (1:19.63)
- Hohrman was fifth in the 50-meter freestyle with a time of 30.21 followed by Morkevicius in sixth place (32.83)
- Worthey took fifth in the 100-meter butterfly (1:39.08)
- GU's 200-meter freestyle relay team of Morkevicius, Makarewicz, Jala and Berner-Kadish finished third overall with a time of 2:20.88
