Bison softball sweeps Morrisville State in NEAC home opener

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

WASHINGTON - Gallaudet University swept its North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) home opener against Morrisville State College on a blustery Friday afternoon at the GU Softball Complex. The Bison shutout the Mustangs in the first game, 4-0, and scored four runs, again, in the second game to win 4-1.

Game 1: Gallaudet 4, Morrisville St. 0
Senior starting pitcher Alyssa Barlow (Chandler, Ariz.) tossed a complete game two-hit shutout in the first game. She went the distance where she issued three passes and struck out five batters to pick-up her fourth win of the season.

The two teams were knotted at 0-0 before Gallaudet scored four times in the bottom of the fifth. Barlow had a two-run single that scored senior Kelsey Hudson (Blissfield, Mich.) and freshman Hailey Henshaw (Newark, Del.) to break-up the scoreless tie. Freshman shortstop Hannah Neild (Litchfield, N.H.) followed with a single to left field to place runners at the corners.

Junior Jacklyn Zacarias (Montebello, Calif.) stepped to the plate and delivered a double to right field to empty the bases and give GU a 4-0 lead.

Morrisville starting pitcher Allison McGuire (0-5) took the loss as she allowed four runs on eight hits, walked two and struck out four in six innings of work.

Game 2: Gallaudet 4, Morrisville St. 1
The Bison (7-11, 2-2 NEAC) wasted little time getting on the scoreboard in the second game as they pushed across three runs in the bottom of the first. Gallaudet went on to add an insurance run in the fifth while Morrisville (3-9, 0-4 NEAC) scored a run in the top of the sixth to break-up the shutout.

Freshman starting pitcher Hannah Carter (Dayton, Ohio) earned her first collegiate win as she threw five innings. She allowed one unearned run on three hits, walked one and struck out four. Zacarias came on in relief to pick-up her first save of the season as she recorded two scoreless innings as she struck out five of the seven batters she faced.

Neild led the Bison at the plate as she went 2-for-2, scored twice and walked once.

Morrisville starting pitcher Brooke Terrier (2-4) took the loss as she surrendered four runs (two earned) on six hits, walked two and struck out one in six innings.

UP NEXT
Gallaudet will next host Cazenovia College (6-8, 0-0 NEAC) on Sunday, April 8, at noon in a conference doubleheader. The softball program will honor its senior class prior to the start of the game.
