Second-half run sparks Gallaudet on the road against Hampden-Sydney

HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, Va. - The comeback was nearly complete for Gallaudet University here Wednesday night as the Bison men's basketball team fought back from down 27 points against Hampden-Sydney College but in the end, time ran out on GU's bid, as the host Tigers won 73-63.

Gallaudet (0-5) used a 25-4 run, that spanned 12 minutes, in the second half to cut the Tigers' lead from 51-24 to just six points, 55-49, in the Fleet Gymnasium.

Junior guard Noah Valencia (Riverside, Calif.) drained his third and final 3-pointer at the 3:43 mark to pull the Bison even closer, 59-55.

Hampden-Sydney (2-1) responded with two 3-pointers and some key free throws down the stretch to secure its second win of the season.

Junior center Steve Valencia-Biskupiak (Riverside, Calif.) led the Bison in scoring with 16 points while Valencia scored 10 of his 15 points in the second half to go with five rebounds, six assists and three steals. Freshman guard Corey Smith (Miami, Fla.) recorded his first double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds. Senior center Jamal Garner (Jacksonville, Ill.) chipped in eight points and four rebounds before he fouled out.

Hampden-Sydney had five players in double figures led by Drew Scott's 14-point game.
