Box Score WASHINGTON – Gallaudet University ran its
men's basketball winning streak to seven on Saturday as the Bison
dispatched Keuka College, 70-50, before 354 in the Field House.
Gallaudet (14-5, 10-3 NEAC) is one win away from tying the men's
basketball school record for consecutive wins (eight).
The Bison, ranked No. 4 in Division III for field-goal
percentage defense (36.7 percent), held Keuka to 11.6 percent under
its field-goal percentage average (44.3 percent) as the Wolfpack
shot 32.7 percent from the field (17 of 52).
Keuka (10-7, 7-4 NEAC) scored the game's first points but
Gallaudet quickly erased that lead and took the game over. The
Bison built a 19-8 lead after a monstrous dunk by sophomore
Joshua
McGriff (Somerset, N.J.) at the eight-minute mark. GU
led 25-14 before the Wolfpack cut the lead to five, 25-20, at the
half.
In the second half, the Bison scored the first eight points as
junior Trey
Gordon (Talladega, Ala.) and senior Ben Coleman
(St. Paris, Ohio) made back-to-back three-pointers as Gallaudet led
33-20. The GU lead continued to increase during the final 17
minutes of the game as the Bison led by as much as 23-points in the
final minutes as Coach Brendan Stern cleared the
bench.
Gordon, the leading scorer in the NEAC, led the Bison offense
with 16 points as he made 4 of 5 shots from three-point range.
McGriff finished with 13 points and eight rebounds while sophomore
guard Raymond
Nelson (Riverside, Calif.) added 12 points, six
assists and five rebounds. Coleman chipped in nine points, all off
three-pointers, while freshman forward Andy Cruz
(Bronx, N.Y.) scored eight points.
Trevor Healey was a one-man wolf pack for Keuka as he scored a
game-high 19 points as he made 8 of 16 shots from the field.
Healey, the reigning NEAC Player of the Week, added a team best six
rebounds and two blocks in the loss.
Gallaudet will host Senior Day tomorrow (Sunday, Feb. 8) at 3
p.m. against Wells College (5-14, 5-6 NEAC).
