BALTIMORE – The Gallaudet University women's swimming and diving team closed out the regular-season schedule Thursday night with a 65-49 road victory over Notre Dame of Maryland University.

Gallaudet (6-10) won seven of the first eight events and swam competitively through 12 events. The Bison swam the final two events as exhibition as the victory was in hand.

Junior Alexandra Polivanchuk (Orebro, Sweden) won the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:08.72 and set a new pool record in the 160-yard IM (1:49.63), an event she swam as an exhibition. Polivanchuk was also a member of the first place 160-yard medley relay (1:37.50) along with senior Katie Giles (Gaithersburg, Md.), sophomore Brianna Stroud-Williams (Tucker, Ga.) and the debut of Alexandra's twin sister Anna Polivanchuk (Orebro, Sweden).

Anna Polivanchuk won her first individual event, moments later, in the 100-yard backstroke as she touched the wall in 1:03.62. She just missed the Gallaudet school record of 1:03.47 set by Stephanie Danner in 2004. Anna got disqualified in the 200-yard backstroke event but bounced back with a first place finish in the 160-yard freestyle relay (1:29.88), that GU swam as an exhibition. The rest of the relay consisted of Giles, freshman Thyra Wood (Great Falls, Mont.) and fellow freshman Molly Verseput (Upland, Calif.).

Wood was first in the 40-yard freestyle as she out touched Williams 22.72 seconds to 24.65, respectively. Verseput had a career day as she won the 1,000-yard freestyle (12:46.72), 200-yard butterfly (2:45.10), and the 100-yard butterfly (1:15.13). Giles had Gallaudet's other first place finish as she won the 100-yard freestyle in 1:03.69.

The Gators were led by Emily Jordan who won the 100-yard breaststroke (1:14.09), 200-yard breaststroke (2:33.15) and the 160-yard IM (1:51.63), an event the Bison swam as exhibition.

The Bison will now begin tapering off until the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) championships on Feb. 14-16 in Cazenovia, N.Y.
