Box Score 3 WASHINGTON – The Gallaudet University women's volleyball team completed its North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) regular-season schedule Saturday and came away with three straight set wins over Morrisville State College, SUNYIT and Wells College in the Field House. GU was the host of Saturday's NEAC South Crossover weekend where the Bison and Penn St.-Abington faced three northern conference teams.
Gallaudet (18-12, 9-1 NEAC) went up against SUNYIT (25-3, 9-1 NEAC) in a pivotal NEAC match and handed the Wildcats a 25-16, 25-18, 25-18 loss, the first loss in conference play this season. GU started the day with a 25-17, 25-15, 25-10 win over Morrisville State and ended the day with a 25-8, 25-16, 25-15 victory over Wells. The victories snap a four-match losing streak for the Bison. The three wins put the Bison in a tie with SUNYIT for first-place in the NEAC.
Carrying momentum from the first win of the day against Morrisville St., the Bison were able to upset SUNYIT in straight sets. The Wildcats were unable to stop the Bison attack led by junior outside hitter Kali Frowick (Norfolk, Neb.), who had a match-high 16 kills. Sophomore Molly Perkins (Apple Valley, Minn.) served six straight points to secure the win in the third set. The Bison turned around and defeated Wells in straight sets. Frowick had her second double-double of the day with 12 kills and 14 digs against the Express (5-19, 3-6 NEAC). She finished with 39 kills and 33 digs on Saturday.
Senior opposite hitter Lane Peters (Phoenix, Ariz.) finished the day with 30 kills and 16 digs. Junior opposite hitter Alison O'Hara (Colorado Springs, Colo.) and freshman middle hitter Giuletta Maucere (Frederick, Md.) pitched in 19 and 14 kills, respectively. Sophomore setter TraciAnn Hoglind (Fishers, Ind.) dished out 91 assists. The Bison had an impressive serving day as they accumulated 32 service aces.
Of the nine conference wins Gallaudet has earned this season, eight were won in straight sets. This bodes well for the Bison as they await final placement in the conference standings. NEAC tie-breaking rules will determine which team will be seeded first and who will host the NEAC tournament the second week of November.
Local foe Catholic University of America will host the Bison on Wednesday, Oct. 23, at 7 p.m. in a non-conference match.
