Box Score 4 WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Gallaudet women's volleyball team was dominant as it cruised to an undefeated weekend at home as the Bison hosted five other North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) teams in two-day invitational at the Field House. The Bison, who did not drop a single set at the event, are now 22-5 overall on the year and 7-0 in the NEAC, good for first-place in the conference.
The Bison capped off their perfect weekend on Saturday afternoon when they defeated Penn St.-Berks (12-8, 6-2 NEAC) in their second contest of the day. After a tightly contested first set (25-19), Gallaudet seized control in the second set and never looked back, comfortably taking the final two sets by scores of 25-16 and 25-15. Sophomore outside hitter Kali Frowick (Norfolk, Neb.) and sophomore setter Sarah Tubert (Burbank, Calif.) paced the Bison with 15 kills and 37 assists, respectively. Junior opposite hitter Lane Peters (Phoenix, Ariz.) had her best performance of the weekend as she tied her season-high mark of 10 kills to go with two digs.
Three hours earlier, Gallaudet took down the College of St. Elizabeth in straight sets, 3-0. The Eagles could only muster 26 points in the entire match against the Bison and did not score more than 12 points in any set, 25-12, 25-7, 25-7. Senior outside hitter Ann Whited (Fishers, Ind.) led the Bison with eight kills and senior utility Mari Klassen (White Rock, British Columbia) recorded nine service aces.
Gallaudet got off on the right foot when the invitational started on Friday as it dominated Lancaster Bible College (10-14, 5-3 NEAC) by a score of 3-0 (25-10, 25-14, 25-11). The Bison used impressive performances by Frowick (13 kills) and Whited (10 digs, four aces) to easily handle the Chargers.
Later that night, the Bison dispatched Penn St.-Abington (13-7, 4-4 NEAC) with similar ease by a score of 3-0 (25-11, 25-10, 25-15). Tubert recorded 28 assists and Whited, for the second time that day, accounted for 10 digs and four service aces in the contest.
The Bison will return to the court on Thursday, Oct. 11, at 7 p.m. to face Stevenson University on American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Dig Pink Night at the Field House. Fans are encouraged to wear pink to the match to show support for breast cancer awareness.
