Box Score FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – The Gallaudet University women's volleyball team rebounded nicely from its tightly contested loss in the championship match of the Worthington Classic by beating non-conference foe University of Mary Washington in five sets Thursday night at the Anderson Center. With the 23-25, 27-25, 22-25, 26-24, 15-10 victory the Bison improve to 18-5 on the season and pick up their fourth true road win.
The Bison went back and forth with the Eagles in the match's first four sets, as the two teams alternated wins. Gallaudet fell in the first and third sets 23-25 and 22-25, respectively, but won the second, 27-25, and the fourth, 26-24, sets. Gallaudet put an end to this pattern in the fifth set by a score of 15-10. Senior middle hitter Jessica Israel (Frederick, Md.) played outstanding in the set, as she led the Bison with four kills and six assists. Sophomore outside hitter Kali Frowick (Norfolk, Neb.) led the team with 17 kills in the match and 17 digs, followed by Israel (15 kills) and senior utility Mari Klassen (White Rock, British Columbia) with 11 kills, 19 digs and three service aces.
Sophomore setter Sarah Tubert (Burbank, Calif.) led the Bison with 49 assists and also added 18 digs. Freshman libero Kate Fetzer (Noblesville, Ind.) paced Gallaudet in digs as she recorded 20 in the match.
The Bison will return to the court Oct. 5-6 at home as they take part in the North Eastern Athletic Conference Invitational. On Friday Gallaudet will play Lancaster Bible at 1 p.m. followed by Penn St.-Abington at 5 p.m. On Saturday, the Bison will take on College of St. Elizabeth and Penn St.-Berks at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., respectively.
