Box Score WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Gallaudet University women's volleyball team fell to non-conference foe Stevenson University Thursday night at the Field House as the Mustangs came away with a 3-0 victory before a spirited crowd of 550 on American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Dig Pink night.
After dropping the first set 16-25, the Bison (22-6) fought hard in the second set but the Mustangs held off the feisty Gallaudet squad, eventually taking the set 22-25. Stevenson (26-2) would later cruise to a third set victory by a score of 14-25. Sophomore outside hitter Kali Frowick (Norfolk, Neb.) led the way for the Bison with 11 kills and 13 digs. Junior opposite hitter Lane Peters (Phoenix Ariz.) added 10 kills and seven digs and sophomore setter Sarah Tubert (Burbank, Calif.) led the team in assists with 27. Senior outside hitter Ann Whited (Fishers, Ind.) also contributed significantly, recording four kills and 11 digs.
The Mustangs came into the match riding a nine-game winning streak, extending it to double digits with the win. They are also in first place in the Commonwealth Conference of the Middle Atlantic Conference and are receiving votes in the national AVCA coaches' poll. The Bison came into the night on a winning streak of their own, having been victorious in their last five matches.
The Bison will look to start a new winning streak on Monday, Oct. 15, at 7 p.m. when they hit the road to take on conference opponent Penn St.-Harrisburg.
