Box Score ABINGTON, Pa. – The Gallaudet University women's basketball team picked up a much needed win on the road Saturday as the Bison defeated Penn St.-Abington 58-47 in a North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) game.
Sophomore guard Britny Latham (Cleveland, Tenn.) came off the bench to make a career-high six three-pointers to lead all-scorers with 19 points in 26 minutes played. She finished the game 6 of 10 from three-point range.
Gallaudet (4-12, 2-8 NEAC South Division) snapped a seven-game losing streak as the Bison celebrated their first win of the New Year. GU shot 42.6 percent from the field and 50 percent from three-point range. After being held to no three-pointers the past two games Latham placed an end to that against the Nittany Lions. The Bison made a season-high 17 steals and passed out 13 assists, the second highest tally this season. GU led 24-20 at the half.
Freshman forward Arlene Ngalle (Washington, D.C.) scored six of her career-high 10 points in the first half, she also grabbed five rebounds. Fellow freshman forward Elena Ciccarelli (Whitesboro, N.Y.) was solid with eight points, eight rebounds and she made a career best five steals. Freshman guard Bianca Richards-Hamilton (Mesa, Ariz.) chipped in seven points, three boards and a career-high five assists. Junior forward Amy Bachtel (Columbus, Ohio) helped to start the Bison transition on offense as she brought down nine of her 10 rebounds on the defensive glass. Led by Latham's 19 points the GU bench outscored the Nittany Lions, 33-2.
Jaclyn Vandiver and Jessica Schmidt scored 18 points and grabbed eight and seven rebounds, respectively, for Penn St.-Abington (0-16, 0-10 NEAC South).
Gallaudet remains on the road and will face conference foe College of St. Elizabeth on Sunday, Jan. 29, at 1 p.m.
