WASHINGTON, D.C. – It was a dominant
performance by the Gallaudet University men's swimming team
Saturday at home in the conference opener against SUNY Cobleskill
as the Bison won 10 of 11 events and swept the diving competition
to win 138-71. GU, the defending North Eastern Athletic Conference
(NEAC) champions, has won three consecutive meets and are off to
one of the best starts in program history at 3-1.
Sophomore DJ Everton-Lovell (Norfolk, Va.) won
two individual events and was a member of the first-place 200-yard
medley relay team. Everton-Lovell won the 200-yard IM (2:17.76) and
the 200-yard butterfly (2:28.92). He was joined on the relay team
by seniors Brian Bennett (Colorado Springs,
Colo.), James McGowan (Palm Coast, Fla.) and
Sean Ryant (Cleveland, Ohio) as the quartet
waltzed to the first-place win with a time of 1:50.34.
Bennett won the 200-yard freestyle (1:49.72) and the 500-yard
freestyle (5:05.19) while McGowan came in first in the 50-yard
freestyle (23.45 seconds) and 100-yard freestyle (52.17 seconds).
Senior Daniel Katz-Hernandez (Montgomery Village,
Md.) won the 1,650-yard freestyle. Junior Kaliob
Miller (Ardmore, Okla.) took home first-place finishes in
the 200-yard backstroke (2:43.36) and was a member of the 400-yard
freestyle relay team (4:04.52). He was joined by Robb
Ingram, Hipolito Deluna and
Ramnath Shenoy. In the diving competition, Jason
Almendarez won and was followed by Ingram and Miller.
The Bison will travel to Towson, Md., next Saturday, November
19, to participate in a non-conference double dual meet at 1 p.m.
against Arcadia University and the host Gophers from Goucher
College.
