WASHINGTON, D.C. – Gallaudet University
men's swimmer Kyle Dacus (The Woodlands,
Texas) was selected to the 2009-10 ESPN The Magazine
Academic All-District second team for the College Division –
District 2, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors
of America (CoSIDA), announced Thursday. Gallaudet is a member of
the College Division (Division II, III, NAIA and 2-year schools)
and is in District 2 for CoSIDA Academic honors.
The junior biology major holds a 3.95 grade point average. Dacus
is one of two student-athletes from the Capital Athletic Conference
(CAC) to be selected to the Academic All-District at-large teams.
Hood College men's tennis player Carter Reitman was named to
the second team.
Dacus was a key role player for the Gallaudet men's
swimming team this season as the Bison finished sixth at the CAC
championships. The Woodlands, Texas, native helped to secure key
team points for Gallaudet throughout the season. He is in the
honors program at Gallaudet where he has made the Dean's List
every semester since coming to Kendall Green. He was chosen as one
of Gallaudet's finest first-year students in 2008-09.
The at-large category features student-athletes from 25
different NCAA sports including; women's bowling,
women's crew, men's and women's fencing,
women's field hockey, men's and women's golf,
men's and women's gymnastics, men's and
women's ice hockey, men's and women's lacrosse,
men's and women's rifle, men's and women's
skiing, men's and women's swimming, men's and
women's tennis, men's volleyball, men's and
women's water polo and men's wrestling.
Dacus is the second Bison to earn Academic All-District honors
this school year (2009-10) as senior Shana Lehmann
(Frederick, Md.) was named to the volleyball first team back in
November. Gallaudet last had an Academic All-American in 1993 and
only has earned two selections total in program history since the
inception of the awards in 1952. Wayne Langbein
was named to the men's at-large second team for track and
field in 1993 and Brian Bippus was selected to the
men's basketball second team in 1991.
To be eligible for CoSIDA Academic honors, a student-athlete
must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative
grade point average of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached
sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current
institution and be nominated by his/her sports information
director.
Since the program's inception in 1952, CoSIDA has bestowed
Academic All-America honors on more than 14,000 student-athletes in
